Situated in the leafy surrounds of one of Sydney’s premier suburbs, the existing large garden offered very litle in the way of aesthetics and function. The clients wanted a family garden with a large pool, level lawn area and outdoor living.
The design solution was to create a space which has clearly defined areas.
A large scale pool nestles at the rear of the backyard, engulfed by abundant, textural planting. When a house has generous proportions, it is only logical that the swimming pool landscape should reflect a similar grand scale.
The largest part of the garden is a rectangular lawn bordered by sandstone edging and retaining walls, limestone paved paths and large format limestone steppers. Although it was to be, above all, a family garden with a large lawn, the clients also wanted certain contemporary elements.
At the far end of the garden is a secondary terrace area of steppers and Creeping Thyme (Thymus serpyllum) screened by Lilly PiIly hedging.
Feather grass (Miscanthus transmorrisonensis) mixed with Catmint (Nepeta ‘Walkers Low’), Prostrate Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis Prostratus) grow alongside Chinese Juniper (Juniperus chinensis ‘Spartan‘).
The rear garden is a gorgeous, tranquil space that complements and enhances the contemporary architecture of the back of the house.
